市野雅彦／Ichino Masahiko

市野雅彦は、現代を代表する陶芸家です。

1961年、市野は兵庫県丹波篠山市の陶芸家の家に生まれました。日本六古窯の一つである丹波焼の地で育った市野は、陶芸家である父の信水や今井政之（1930〜2023）に師事したのち、1988年に独立します。以降、丹波焼の伝統や風土を受け継ぎつつも、自分にしか作れない造形を模索し、現代的な意匠をこらした独特の作品を生み出していきました。1995年には、貝を彷彿とさせる作品【開】で、日本陶芸展の大賞を当時最年少で受賞し、一躍脚光を浴びました。その後の受賞歴も華々しく、海外の展覧会にも数多く参加するなど、一連の作品は国内外で高く評価されています。

独特の線紋に代表されるオリジナリティに富んだ器から、赤ドベと呼ばれる伝統的な釉薬を用いた作品まで、いずれもおおらかな素朴さのなかに、唯一無二の存在感と世界観を漂わせています。

Masahiko Ichino is a contemporary representative ceramic artist.

Born in 1961 in the city of Tanba Sasayama, Hyogo Prefecture, he grew up in the region known for Tamba-yaki, one of Japan’s six ancient kilns. After apprenticing under his father, Shinsui, and the ceramic artist Masayuki Imai (1930-2023), Ichino established his independence in 1988. While inheriting the traditions and local culture of Tamba-yaki, he explored unique forms that only he could create, producing distinctive works with contemporary designs. In 1995, his piece “Kai”, reminiscent of a shell, won the grand prize at the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition, making him the youngest recipient at the time and bringing him into the spotlight. Subsequent awards and numerous participations in overseas exhibitions have garnered widespread recognition for his series of works both domestically and internationally.

From the originality of the unique line patterns to the traditional glaze called “Aka Dobe”, each piece exudes a unique presence and worldview in its generous simplicity.
