長谷京治／Nagatani Kyoji

長谷京治（1950〜）は、ミラノと日本を拠点に活動している彫刻家です。

東京生まれの長谷は、東京造形大学彫刻科を卒業後、東京芸術大学大学院工芸科鋳金専攻を修了すると、1978年にイタリアへ渡りました。給費留学生としてイタリア国立美術ブレラアカデミーで彫刻を学んだのち、長谷はイタリア各地で個展をひらき、個性あふれる数々の作品で華々しい受賞歴を重ねていきました。2000年には、ヴァチカン法王庁より大聖年のための宝飾箱の制作を依頼されるなど、その作品の価値は国内外で認められています。

スイスの建築家であるマリオ・ボッタは、長谷の彫刻がはらんでいる壊れやすさと絶妙な均衡、そこから生まれる絶え間ない緊張感や深遠な世界観を高く評価しました。箱根彫刻の森美術館所蔵の【風の椅子】（1995年）のように、一連の作品が持つ洗練されたフォルムには緻密な細工が施されており、鑑賞者はそのなかに、詩情に富んだ穏やかな風景を見出すことができるでしょう。

Kyoji Nagatani (1950-) is a sculptor based in Milan and Japan.

Born in Tokyo, Nagatani graduated from the Sculpture Department of Tokyo Zokei University and completed the Metal Casting Program at the Graduate School of Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1978, he moved to Italy, where he studied sculpture at the Brera Academy in Milan as a scholarship student. Subsequently, Nagatani held solo exhibitions throughout Italy, accumulating an impressive record of awards with his distinctive works. In 2000, he received a commission from the Vatican to create a jewelry box for the Great Jubilee, further attesting to the recognition of his art both nationally and internationally.

Renowned Swiss architect Mario Botta highly appreciates Nagatani’s sculptures for their delicate balance between fragility and exquisite equilibrium, giving rise to a constant tension and profound worldview. Works like “Wind Chair” (1995), housed in the Hakone Open-Air Museum, showcase intricate craftsmanship within the refined forms of his series.
