堀尾昭子／Horio Akiko

堀尾昭子は、関西を中心に活躍する造形作家です。1968年に「具体美術協会」の会員となり、解散まで同グループに在籍していました。

1937年に徳島市に生まれた堀尾は、徳島大学医学部付属の高等看護学校で学んだ後、神戸で看護師として働きながら、独学で作品を制作するようになりました。木や鉄などの素材に透明感のあるアクリルや鏡を組み合わせ、自在に変形・解体させた作品を数多く手がけており、その幾何学的なフォルムと抑制のきいた色彩や質感は、静謐な佇まいを生み出しています。すっきりとして無駄のない造形は、年を経るごとに一層細やかに、丹念にそぎ落とされていきました。両手に収まるほど小さな一連の作品には、独自の詩的な世界観が結晶のごとく凝縮されており、そこから素材そのものの持つ美しさが立ちのぼってきます。また、それらは「無題」であるがゆえに、観る者の解釈に無限の可能性を与えます。

「線そのもの、色彩そのもの、素材でもって私の『世界を組む』こと」を目指した、堀尾ならではの作品世界と言えるでしょう。

Akiko Horiuchi is a prominent plastic artist from Kansai area. She became a member of the Gutai Art Association in 1968 and remained with the group until its dissolution.

Born in Tokushima City in 1937, Horio studied at the Advanced Nursing School attached to the Tokushima University School of Medicine, then worked as a nurse in Kobe and began to create art on her own. She combined materials such as wood and steel with transparent acrylic and mirrors, freely transforming and dismantling them to create numerous works whose geometric forms and restrained colors and textured create a serene appearance. The neat and lean form has been carefully trimmed down with even more detail over the years. In a series of works small enough to fit in both hands, a unique poetic worldview is condensed like crystals from which the beauty of the materials themselves emerges. They also offer unlimited possibilities for interpretation by the viewer because they are “untitled”.

The world of Horio’s work can be said to be her own, in which she aims to construct my world with the line itself, the color itself, and the materials.
